learning lifes lessons on & off the mat
May 20th 2012
This attitude is as important on the mat as in life. When we learn to listen to our bodies, to release, to relax and to surrender into our breath and our postures, then we will discover space to move into. We are always learning to balance. We need to find freedom in the body rather than controlling our body with tension. We need to combine the strength and surrender in life that we strive for on the mat. As with many lessons on our mat….they are actually lessons for off the mat!

spring clean and smile
January 29th 2012
So with that in mind, I am not to mind missing the sales, completely, as I won’t have worn the bargain shoes anyway! I am instead planning more of a clear out next weekend to see who elses face will light up over things I have forgotten I own. Gifting your time, your cast offs and your love and tlc are the glue that makes a community thrive and a home a home. I aim to find my happiness less in possessions and more in making other people smile!
can we make 'blue' monday less blue
January 16th 2012
As I have said before, we all feel the expectations of others. In my opinion it is letting those expectations affect us or having unrealistic expectations of ourselves that does the harm. How can we be blue if we are happy with where we are at. We are more likely to be down about not achieving something than we are when we are content with where we are. Instead take a moment where we dwell on the sweetness of life in knowing ‘who’ we are rather than the disappointment of ‘what’
new years resolutions
December 30th 2011
Sometimes a new year’s resolution will be not to change, but to develop. Just to tweak something you already do. Such as healthier life choices rather than a whole diet or fitness overhaul. Sometimes you are just great as you are. Love yourself as you are, and sometimes because you love yourself more you are able to treat yourself better. Do something every week that takes you outside of your comfort zone, but don’t push yourself too hard. Wishing you a 2012 full of happiness & good health.
use tapas to resist temptation
November 28th 2011
Just because I teach yoga doesn't mean I am any less tempted to relax with a large tub of sweets or chocolate. However I am motivated by increased understanding of how such short term pleasures often increase long term misery. I know I will enjoy my practice, it will allow me the quiet of inner reflection and I will feel better in both the short and longer term for it. So when you can't be bothered, practice tapas. Each small victory over the temptation of sloth will make next time easier :)
yoga and the seasons
November 7th 2011
Life changes like the seasons...sometimes like winter we hibernate & become less brightly coloured. Then our potential flowers forth; like a crocus in spring. Beautifully rested & full of life & new enthusiasm. Yoga practice changes accordingly..sometimes it needs to be warming or invigorating, sometimes calming or restorative. Don't fight your body, listen to it!
how yoga makes me happy
October 28th 2011
why am I happier than I used to be and why isn't everybody living a life that makes them happy? What factors may effect my happiness and why is knowing and putting into practice such very different things....Learning to be happy with what I can do has allowed me to enjoy the moment rather than comparing, striving & craving to be something I am not. That as long as I give my best then I should be happy with the results. I am learning that comparisons & competitiveness will lead to discontentment
