The Royal Northern College of Music's gala dinner
By Cheshire Life on January 26th 2011
The Royal Northern College of Music raised more than £28,000 for scholarships and bursaries to support talented students and future students by staging a gala dinner on the stage set of its production Carmen, with the entire cast performing between gourmet courses.
RNCM Principal Prof Jonty Stockdale said: ‘The specialist musical training necessary at this level is an expensive business and with the forthcoming radical changes in higher education, the need to support our students to be able to attend this great conservatoire will become ever more urgent and necessary.’
Next month RNCM students will start a programme across the Central Manchester University Hospitals using music to enhance the wellbeing of patients, their families and staff.
‘We hope the gala dinner will mark the beginning of an important annual contribution to the RNCM as we embark on a new era of philanthropy and partnerships,’ Prof Stockdale added.
