A Grade II listed former Post Office, this splendid edifice was jointly re-launched as The Grill on the Square by the renowned Charles Dobosz in partnership with Manchester’s Young Chef of the Year 2008, Adam Smith. The pair met when working for Michael Caines at his restaurant in Manchester (Adam was senior sous chef and Charles was restaurant manager) and now thriving in an upcoming area of Warrington, the Grill serves premium-quality British food with a twist, which includes a particularly splendid two-course lunch menu served every day (12pm-3pm) costing just £8.95. Current lunchtime favourites include a starter of hot smoked salmon with sweet pickled beet and garlic dressing, followed by salt beef brisket, creamed potato and herb butter sauce.

A pre-theatre menu of two courses and a coffee for only £14.95 is also a popular choice - perfect before a show at the nearby Parr Hall Theatre - as well as Monday evening dining which is brilliant value for money, with a complimentary bottle of house wine for every couple dining after 7pm. This is exceptionally impressive given the ultra-high quality of the house wines.

On top of this, a comprehensive bar menu is available all day, including smaller versions of dishes from the à la carte menu, as well as British classics such as steak baguette with homemade chips.

VERDICT: Delicious, high-quality British food with a warm welcome assured - the perfect combination! Check out thesuperb live music on Thursdays, with smooth jazz from ultratalented, local soul singer, Sebastian.
