Student gives talk on autism at Osteria Mauro’s luncheon club, Prestbury

Members of a Prestbury Italian restaurant’s monthly luncheon club were delighted when a local young man gave a personal account of what it is like to live with autism.

Since his early years, David Hodgson has been presented with various challenges as a result of this condition, giving him a novel interpretation of life and society.

David spoke openly to diners at Osteria Mauro about his condition and the ramifications that this poses for everyday life and shared his insight on what it means to be autistic.

Initially labelled as simply a difficult child or a naughty boy, David and his family used several support groups and friends to guide him through life to achieve his own personal goals.

David has persevered with all challenges presented to him and he’s excelled academically. Having achieved outstanding A Level results David and his family are now very proud that he will now be moving away from home to study Law at Cambridge University.

The luncheon club diners were touched by David’s candour and deeply impressed by his achievements.

Osteria Mauro’s luncheon club meets on the second Wednesday of every month. As well as enjoying good Italian food and wine, the members enjoy the talks by guest speakers.

A spokesman for Osteria Mauro’s said: ‘It was so interesting to hear a personal account of what it is like to live with autism. We have all heard of the condition but to really find out how it feels was a big eye opener. The lunch was attended by several teachers and they were also fascinated by David’s story and his achievements.’
