The Stretton Walking Day saw a whole community unite for this traditional
occasion. The event began with a special service at St Matthew’s Church, Stretton, during which the new Rose Queen, Sophie Leigh, was crowned.
A procession, led by local dignitaries, the Rev Elaine Chegwin Hall, a brass band and the Rose Queen, started at the church, and followed a route around Stretton, including Pewterspear Green Trust parkland, returning to Stretton St Matthew’s CE Primary. Children from the Sunday School, the Boys’ Brigade, Scouts and the Girl Guides played a big part, walking
together.
St Matthew’s School Summer Fayre then opened with stalls, fairground rides, dance displays and fun family activities, including a barbecue, face painting and a raffle.
