SHAWS OF DARWEN
A TRADITION FOR
OVER 114 YEARS
Based in Lancashire, Shaws of Darwen have refined fireclay production over more than 114 years to an ‘art form’.  Each Shaws sink is individually hand-made and the extensive product range is known to be the best in the world.  A true test of quality is to examine the finished product, admire the durable gloss finish and feel the weight – no machine-made lightweight imitations – just traditional quality, built to world-class manufacturing standards.
The classic styling of Shaws sinks is not and never has been based on the whim of the fashion of the day.  Its hallmark is timeless and high quality combined with form and function.  The original Belfast sink is still significantly popular and Shaws remain the premier manufacturer of this product.  Each Shaws sink is signed with the impression of its craftsman maker and delivered with a certificate of authenticity, verifying the sink’s handmade quality.
Four new models have been created, expanding both the Classic and Original collections.  Each handcrafted sink carries a Shaws of Darwen brand which is a guarantee of traditional quality of a modern product.  All sinks are manufactured with a 3½” or 1½” waste outlet which is suitable for a basket strainer, waste disposer or plug.
The Classic Collection is a wide range of sinks designed to appeal to more contemporary styles and includes the new Brindle 1.5 bowl ceramic sink.  The smaller bowl is a true half bowl of full depth, unlike other 1.5 sinks and can be inset or undermounted with granite, wood or slate worktops, to make a real statement in any kitchen.
Other new sinks in the Classic portfolio include the Butler 1000 which is a huge, deep Victorian style sink and the Shaker 800, a single deep bowl with square sides – both will look good in traditional or modern properties.
The locally named ‘Entwistle’ is a sink which extends the Original Collection already containing an array of original designs and details which are unique in fireclay ceramics.  As practical now as a century ago, a Shaws Original is a sink of substance with robust solid designs that balances durable built quality with elegant styling.  The Entwistle is an English made 800mm framed single bowl sink with a distinctive, traditional style patterned front, which is perfect for refurbishment projects.
All sinks, including the four new models can be seen on the new Shaws website at www.shawsofdarwen.com along with the latest range of complementary traditional style taps manufactured world-renowned manufacturer, Perrin & Rowe. Thanks to the clean, contemporary design of the website, you’ll be able to explore the site and learn about the heritage that has inspired each exclusive Shaws collection.
The e-commerce section allows all of our customers to browse and compare product styles, dimensions and colours, adding exclusive brassware and accessories. Secure payment methods are also extremely easy to follow.
We recommend that our ceramic sinks be cleaned using a soft sponge or cloth and a non-abrasive cleaning product.  Soap and water will generally be sufficient.  Our sinks are manufactured with a durable glaze for years of wear and if a metal pan or cutlery marks the surface we recommend “Astonish” cleaner.
Earlier this year we partnered with the Prince’s Foundation and supplied our traditional Original and Classic sinks to their Natural House project built at the Building Research Establishment in Watford, near London.  The Natural House is a low carbon home designed by The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment using natural materials in a traditional design that reflects the character of its local area.
