Royal Academy art comes to The Watergate Street Gallery
Royal Academicians are amongst the greatest names in contemporary British art and The Watergate Street Gallery in Chester has been chosen for the first time to host an exhibition of selected Royal Academy artists.
The Royal Academy was founded by George III in 1768 to present a broad range of visual art to the widest possible audience. This has been The Watergate Street Gallery philosophy since opening its door to the public in 1992.
The Academy’s 34 founding Members were a group of prominent artists who were determined to achieve professional standing for British art. They also wanted to provide a venue for exhibitions that would be open to the public; and to establish a school of art through which their skills and knowledge could be passed to future generations of practitioners.
The RA has held a summer exhibition in London since 1768 and now, nearly 250 years on and for the first time in history, the RA comes to Chester.
The Watergate Street Gallery will now be permanently displaying the work of many of these artists including Sir Peter Blake RA, Donald Hamilton Fraser RA, Sir Terry Frost RA, John Hoyland RA, Sandra Blow RA, and Barbara Rae RA.
Art on display is for sale and ranges from £500 to £5000 – this is a true opportunity to purchase a guaranteed investment piece. A recent edition increased 10 fold in 3 years.
