Manchester’s Teppanyaki restaurant 21st anniversary celebrations

By Cheshire Life on April 20th 2010

Manchester’s Teppanyaki restaurant used its 21st anniversary celebrations as a launch pad for the new Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital charity.

The six-course gala dinner at the Japanese restaurant in the heart of Chinatown, featuring chateaubriand, sea bass and giant prawns cooked in front of guests, was one of the appeal’s first fundraising events.

The new charity’s chairman, Maurice Watkins, director of Manchester United, said the aim was to support research projects at the new hospital, help create a more child-friendly environment and provide state-of-the-art equipment. Mr Watkins and Manchester United’s former manager Wilf McGuinness were among the guests who raised £10,000 on the night.

The new centre of excellence has become nationally known as ITV are airing their 12-part documentary series Children’s Hospital.
Brian Powell, Teppanyaki’s owner, said: ‘We are delighted and proud to be able to do our bit for the new appeal.’
