High street stars in Nantwich

Nantwich is a classic Cheshire town with plenty of charm. But don’t be fooled by all those half-timbered buildings. This isn’t a sleepy Cheshire backwater: Nantwich is a thriving town with plenty of smart shops, chic bars and maybe even the odd celebrity.

The architecture is, by the way, second only to that of Chester for historic significance in the county and there are areas here that will have experienced the tread of ancient Romans, who would mine salt for use in the garrisons at Chester and Stoke-on-Trent.

Hospital Street has lots of attractive independent boutiques that are just the place for more unique shopping trove. They have such browsing potential and offer everything from bridal to gifts, shoes to jewellery, not to mention fashion.

Nantwich has an excellent selection of ladies’ fashion shops, making this a wonderful alternative destination if you’re looking for new season clothes for your wardrobe, or something a little special for the party season. What is particularly commendable is that these are the kinds of stores that really do believe in customer service and will help you navigate the new trends to find the perfect buy.

And after all that shopping, it’s time to find a cosy corner in a local pub with open fire and ancient beams, or you could make for a smart bar or restaurant for a glass of fizz.

Nantwich

Where is it?
It’s a Cheshire Plain town on the banks of the River Weaver with the Shropshire Union Canal running through it making a junction with the Llangollen Canal at Hurleston to the north. It’s position is four miles south-west of Crewe and 20 miles south-east of Chester. It is a major road junction, being the meeting point of the A51, A500, A529, A530 and A534 roads.

Nantwich is a market town and civil parish in the borough of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The town gives its name to the parliamentary constituency of Crewe and Nantwich. Dorfold Hall a Jacobean mansion in the nearby village of Acton is listed as Grade and was considered by Pevsner to be one of the two finest Jacobean houses in Cheshire
