What do you wear to work? As a travel writer I spend about 20% of my time travelling and 80% of my time writing from my home office. So I always wear something comfortable and uncomplicated, like long knitted jumpers over leggings or stretchy jeans with a vest top. If I’m travelling, it’s usually something light such as a kaftan with linen trousers.
What do you wear for a big night out? I have two favourite outfits - my Matthew Williamson sparkly dress which I wear over wet-look leggings, or if I’m daring to bare a bit of flesh, I have a lovely off-the-shoulder black dress I bought from a boutique in Cape Town. I like to wear things I’ve bought from my travels.
Tell us about your biggest fashion mistake There are plenty! Probably the worst was when I had all my hair cut off. It just didn’t suit my face
at all.
What’s your favourite high street shop? ‘All Saints’.
I quite like their comfortable, grungy style and simple colour schemes.
Tell us who your favourite designer is Amanda Wakeley. I love her dresses - so chic and feminine - and she always uses nice fabrics which complement a women’s figure, whatever the size or shape.
Most recent purchase you’re thrilled with As a new Mum I’m addicted to Mothercare, (I never ever thought I’d say this was my favourite shop!), and they have a fabulous maternity range. On a recent trip I found a gorgeous sparkly beaded black top which was a steal for £20. It’s so versatile, and you don’t have to the pregnant to wear it. So many people have commented on it, and are stunned when I tell them it’s from Mothercare.
Whose style do you admire the most?
I love Cameron Diaz, she’s cool, quirky and glamorous without looking like she’s made too much of an effort.
What perfume do you wear? Princess by Vera Wang, I wore it on my wedding day so it holds great memories for me.
Which hair and beauty products are in your bathroom? I’m into organic natural products, so I love anything from Origins. Their products smell really fresh and are not full of chemical.
Which beauty product would you be lost without? YSL’s Touche Eclat. It’s hiding the bags under my eyes at the moment from the sleepless nights.
Tell us about the last occasion you stepped out feeling utterly gorgeous Two weeks after my baby was born we were invited to a 30th birthday party, I was glowing with happiness and adrenaline from having her, and I was lucky to have lost most of the weight, so I pulled on my little black dress and had a fabulous night out with my husband, the first ‘proper’ night out we’d had in a long time.
Are you a gym body? Yes. I love it. I’m addicted to yoga, pilates, dancing and swimming. My local gym is my haven.
What’s your favourite salon beauty treatment? Deep tissue or a Thai massage. I carry tension in my back so I love it when the therapist gets their knuckles and elbows in the knots.
Do you have a beauty tip you swear by? There is nothing better for your complexion then spending a day hiking in the great outdoors. Fresh and exercise makes you feel good about yourself and does wonders for your skin.
Favourite holiday destination Italy. It has everything I love: great food and wine, hospitality, mountains, fabulous beaches, and stylish cities. n
