Dabbers ready for Britain in Bloom
By Cheshire Life on April 14th 2010
Nantwich residents are planting the seeds of their entry into the Britain in Bloom contest later this year.
They are hoping that Nantwich will come up smelling of roses once again in this year’s hotly-contested awards.
Nantwich was crowned Best Town in the North West in Bloom awards for the fifth year running in 2009. It also scooped the overall championship award for the Best Kept Village/Market Town Competition in the Cheshire Community Pride Awards.
Cooper Taylor Chartered Accountants are once again throwing their weight behind the town’s efforts. The Barker Street firm is sponsoring floral planters which bring a vibrant splash of colour to the town square and the area in front of Nantwich Parish Church
It hopes other businesses will follow suit and help. Cooper Taylor principal, Philip Taylor, who is also President of Nantwich Rotary Club, said: ‘As a true Dabber I get a great sense of pride living in a town which is nationally recognised for its floral charms and I was thrilled at the double success it enjoyed last year.
‘Sponsoring the floral beds is one small way of giving something back to the town and we hope it inspires townspeople to get right behind the local competition organisers again this year.’
Nantwich in Bloom, which coordinates the town's effort in the national contest, welcomed the contribution. Chairman, Doug Butterill, said: ‘It has been harder for the companies and traders to get involved this time around because of the recession but they did us proud in 2009 and we hope they will do again.’
Its committee stages local competitions for households and businesses to enter by sprucing up their homes and premises with flowers.
Last year Cooper Taylor carried off a Gold Award in the Commercial category after judge Margaret Thrower visited its offices at The Dowery and was greeted by a colourful array of hanging baskets and tubs adorning its frontage.
