Celebrating its 150th anniversary, Birkenhead School’s outdoor family concert, Perfect Pitch, on Saturday June 18th will provide a tremendous finale to an exciting year. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and its acclaimed chief conductor Vasily Petrenko will be performing, with guest soloist Liverpool-born mezzo soprano Kathryn Rudge.
Headmaster John Clark said: ‘Never, in all our 150 years, have we hosted something on this scale with performers of this calibre. I can’t quite believe we shall be seeing Vasily Petrenko and the whole of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra performing on stage on what is normally our cricket pitch.’
Petrenko is chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and principal conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
The Perfect Pitch programme includes pieces by Gustav Holst, Bizet’s, Saint-Saëns and Schönberg and will climax with a firework show to the sound of Tchaikovsky’s explosive 1812 Overture.
